5 Things I learned from Healthy Living Summit

Before my weekend at Healthy Living Summit becomes a distant memory, I made myself sit down, go through my tweets and notes and come up with 5 major takeaways.

It’s a great practice to get into, especially if you want to turn some of those ideas into goals.

Some crazy stats (most from Heather/Running with Sass’s session!)
– 90% of people who visit your page to like it will not return

1) One Healthy Choice.
Derek from the Greatist joined HLS for a post-checkin/pre-cocktail hour presentation and chat. He’s done some amazing things with his site — turning it from small audience to an entire movement with just one thought

“If we can empower people to make one healthier choice, it can empower them to make that choice in the future. “

2) Teaching a fitness class to health/fitness enthusiasts is amazing.

3) Host a virtual challenge
I loved this session more than I thought I would! I went into it not thinking it was something for me (but obviously curious enough to check it out) and left feeling completely inspired. I want to host a virtual challenge, but not on my own. I’m interested in a photo a day challenge, and have just started getting the ball rolling on something for the fall! Stay tuned…I’d love for you to participate!

4) Be authentic.
This is the hot topic in my other life/job in the higher ed world (have you checked out Millennial Girl, my alter ego?). In the healthy living blog world, it’s so easy to get swept up in the latest trends, working with certain vendors/brands, and that can all cause you to lose sight of…you!
