Sunday Work Day

Since most of Saturday was spent doing nothing (after running a 10 mile race, mind you), Sunday turned into a super productive day at the little house on Pine.

The day began with planting, harvesting, and weeding the four main vegetable boxes:

Today, I planted more spinach, cucumbers, zucchini (golden and black beauty), sunflowers, bee flower mix, and zinnias. We’ve started to harvest spinach, lettuce mixes, and cherries (eee!!). I have a post coming with all of the things I’ve planted so far this year. So much happening on the homestead!

While I did that, Shane hauled tons of dirt into our newest (large) garden bed: the back fence area!

I have a variety of things to plant here, including kiwi, sunflowers, and squashes.

After spending most of the morning in the hot sun, I spent some time in the early afternoon running errands, picking up things like milk and eggs for baking, strawberries from a local farm, and a few bags of humus/compost from our local home/garden store {and of course a few more cardboard boxes from various locations}.

Then, I got busy inside the house. I baked up a storm today!  First, my birthday cake for tomorrow:

Made with strawberries, of course. Finished product will be unveiled tomorrow!

Since I planted some summer zucchini in the garden today, I thought it would be fitting to finish using the shredded zucchini from the homestead last year! I froze this in July.

 I only planted green zucchini last year. This year, I planted some yellow zucchini, too!

I made a couple dozen chocolate chip zucchini muffins. Delicious! Recipe coming soon on my Recipage.

Most of these will be sent straight to the freezer, but some will be early wake-up snacks for my birthday hike tomorrow morning!

Then I whipped up two dough balls for quiche. I have so much spinach, I think a spinach quiche or two is in my future! {maybe I’ll even have enough left over to make some spinach bites, too!}

I also spent some time painting the trim, doing touch-up painting, and putting back the furniture in the the dining room. The new color is a ginger root tint. I love it! We purchased a new-to-us dining set for this room, too. Hopefully we’ll be able to pick it up this week!

The bedroom is the next paint project…maybe we’ll save that for our next work vacation 😉

So much productivity at home today! I’m excited for tomorrow…a morning hike followed by an afternoon of planting and pulling out our porch/lawn furniture and a little champagne and strawberry cake gathering! Happy Birthday to me 🙂
