Summer Trip to Milburn Orchards

Summer isn’t over yet. I know it’s back to school time, and name-your-coffee-shop is gearing up to serve pumpkin and apple-flavored treats.

I’m still soaking up the warm days and starry nights.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate is to pick seasonal fruit. After a rainy and overcast Saturday, I was itching to play outside on Sunday.

So, I ventured to Milburn Orchards to pick some grapes! Have you visited Milburn? I normally visit in the fall to pick apples, but decided to come try picking grapes this year! They have so many U-Pick options: varieties of berries, cherries, and apples, something new every weekend!

THIS was my view. I probably spent more time than I needed walking up and down the vines, finding the sweetest and plumpest grapes. The vines are taller than me, but I fit perfectly underneath them to grab bunches of grapes.

I went with the intention of picking red grapes to eat fresh and freeze. But then I found these amazing purple (grape?) grapes, and I couldn’t help myself. Before I knew what was happening, my basket started to overflow with grapes! I guess this means grape jelly is in my future.

I stopped by the Farm Store on the property before I left to taste-test some peach pie (apparently it was National Peach Pie Day <– why did no one tell me?) and left with a dozen yellow peaches and half a dozen Asian pears.

Here’s my beautiful bounty:

I admit I love the taste of that first fall apple, but I’ll happily continue to devour peaches in the meantime…summer is still kickin’!
