A delicious coffee flashback to California. Ahhh, when it was warm.

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that my biggest high school fears came alive this week: sharing a presentation in front of a high school class. Truth: I would’ve hated doing this in high school. Well, I liked certain teachers and would do it if they asked and loved working in the library, which involved working with people. I also really liked my current issues classes, and sometimes we played games that required being in the spotlight. But, I never really ‘fit in’ and at the time, that seemed like a big deal. I would’ve run and hid under a rock if you asked me to speak in front of the class. Want to hear something funny? In college, I worked hard for positions that forced me to speak in front of large groups. I even became Student Government President. Speaking and presenting in front of large groups is not something I fear anymore. I would LAUGH at you if you told high school me that one day I’d be making a living teaching fitness classes and speaking in front of middle and high school students. Now, I really enjoy not ‘fitting in’ and marching to the beat of my own drum. If only our adult selves could speak to our high school selves!

Anyway, one of the pieces of my job is to help coordinate presentations about life after high school to students in grades 7, 8, and 9. I am giving a few of the presentations myself, and have reached out to amazing people I am fortunate to know to help give a few, too. I think it’s helpful to show examples of people living their dreams. It’s also really awesome that I’ve been able to snag a couple of KCHS graduates–to show students that someone from their school is working hard and living the dream.

Related to this, I like to highlight goals and goal setting when I give the presentation, because we all know how much I adore setting goals (my husband proposed to me with a nerdy goal sheet I asked him to complete). Several students wrote in their surveys things like “when you write down your goals, you’re more likely to achieve them” and “sharing your goals will help you achieve them” and “setting goals leads to success.” I read these with the biggest goofy grin on my face because 1) they are right 2) they were listening! We have such an awesome opportunity to impact young lives with this program.

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m looking forward to the next few weeks! We have our first college visit/trip with students, husband and I are heading to Charlotte to celebrate our friends and their marriage, I have the start of my new Spring into Fitness program, and a retreat with my colleagues who I rarely get to see since we all work remotely/in our counties. The hustle is real, yo!

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I attended a virtual workshop this week related to being a ‘best kept secret’ with Selena Soo. I adore learning from people in marketing and strategy industries, and I sign up for any webinars I can. I also love to read their books! Selena Soo is the latest person I’ve started following, but I also love following Susie Moore, Gabby Bernstein, and Michael Hyatt. I love to learn.

How are you this week? I enjoyed having a snow day on Wednesday, even as weird as that sounds for the start of spring in Maryland. It’s nice to be all warm and cozy inside while a wintery wonderland grows outside your window.
