Coffee Talk Tuesday #122
Grab your cup! It’s Tuesday and we’re fixin’ to have a chat. I’m full of projects and ideas this week, so let’s get talking.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed coffee in bed yesterday while working at home. I love project-based work and being able to work from anywhere. I had the ‘day off’ from my MBRT job yesterday, so I got to focus on other projects.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that one of the projects I completed yesterday was a video that highlights Spin at AquaFit. I love telling stories and giving people the opportunity to share their passions. Even though I’m almost always met with resistance when I say “I want to film you or photograph you for this story,” it turns out amazing each time, because one of my strengths is drawing passion out of people. I love the moment when it happens — I’ll ask a series of questions, usually starting with something simple like your name, what you do, how long you’ve been doing that thing, and then I’ll go deeper. There’s a spark when people hit their stride. Every single person has this — the ability to talk freely and deeply about something they like. That’s one of the things I do with the students when I work for MBRT – I draw the interests out of them and help them recognize and own it. I like being able to capture this aha moment on video for projects I create with clients.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m available for hire for these projects. Have a story to tell? Don’t know how best to tell it? I’m your person! My top skill is language — I love words and using them to be descriptive and creative. When I can pair words with visuals, like in a post or in a video, that’s where the magic happens. Let me know if you have a story you want to share with the world, I’m here to help you tell it!
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m loving my current virtual HIIT fitness session, and I’m already dreaming up the next one. I teach so many different flavors, and I want to give everyone a chance to try each class. The next virtual fit session will be “Flavors of Fitness” and will feature a signature class for each fitness modality that I teach. This includes Barre, Buti, HIIT, Insanity, PiYo, Turbo Kick, and Zumba. This would give you the opportunity to try each of my classes anywhere. More details to follow – let me know if this would interest you!
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that husband and I did our taxes last week, and oh man do we owe! Are you experiencing that this year, owing more than usual, or getting a smaller refund than usual? I usually owe, because of being self-employed with fitness and getting 1099s from various clients, but this year was a lot more than usual. We work with an individual to help with our taxes, since I have so many different income streams and projects. I love the project-based work that I do, but come tax time, it’s pretty chaotic. Glad to have individuals in this world who can wrap their heads around it all!
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m itching for another trip. This part of the year feels so weird to me, being stuck in what seems like an endless winter and hoping for spring and summer and travel and trips. For whatever reason, this time of year is also busiest with work, so the prospect of planning a quick trip is not likely, but a girl can dream! Looking forward to May/birthday month/hiking!
That’s a good place to pause our conversation, but I’ll also leave you with this — it’s been in my head all week, and I want to share it with you! I firmly believe that you ‘get’ messages when you’re ready to receive them, so maybe this will spark something in you, if you need to hear it.
You often feel stressed or tired, not because you’ve done too much, but because you’ve done too little of what sparks a light in you.
When I left my job of 10 years a little more than a year ago, I needed this. I needed to hear it last week because it reminded me to keep pushing toward the spark. Isn’t that what we’re chasing after all, the spark? The raison d’être? Have a great week!
