The B Word
Hello, crazy world in which I choose to live.
I’m on the go, moving from one place to the next while simultaneously trying to continue/improve my fitness classes, my own fitness routine, my homestead, and planning for the next steps in our recruitment cycle (#admissionsprobs).
I’m not overwhelmed, it’s just going to be pretty fast-paced around these parts for the next couple of weeks.
Here’s a little peek at my schedule – you might want to grab a drink or at least a very nice cup of coffee.
For most of last week, I was in Chicago for the National Conference on Student Recruitment, Marketing, and Retention. After arriving home at 3:30 Friday morning, I made it into my office at 8 a.m. ready to tackle the day. I taught a Zumba Fitness class during lunch, and proceeded right into an afternoon of planning at work.
After work, I met a friend for a cocktail to discuss higher ed, smart career choices and ideas, and communication. Even though I was exhausted from the day, this was so helpful. Hooray for friends and mentors!
Tomorrow, I leave for Boston for four days for the eduWeb conference. (Soooo excited!)
The moment I return (the next morning), I’m scheduled for some oral surgery. (Sooo not excited!)
A few days after that, I’m in Boston again for the Healthy Living Summit!
Once I return, I go almost head first into full fall recruitment mode for work.
Why do I continue to do it? I love opportunities, creating them, seizing them, working them. I like surrounding myself with people of similar interests and sharing our energy. This is likely the reason that I made the move so quickly to become a fitness instructor, and why I continue to say yes to almost anything presented to me by a close colleague or friend.
I do value relaxation and meditation too, which is totally achievable in a full schedule. (like my long weekend trip to Shenandoah National Park, or my time spent on the homestead, or reading, or dancing).
I keep my schedule full, but I won’t say that I like to keep myself “busy.” I like to share opportunities, interests, and energy. That’s fun to me. It makes each day enjoyable, and as a result, I have less stress and anxiety, and more excitement and smiles. I appreciate the world and all energy within it. I’m pumped for each day, knowing it will bring something just as unexpected or delightful as the previous day. And really, that’s what living is all about.
