A Cupcake Party

Last weekend, in honor of the arrival of Spring, the little house on Pine hosted our annual Cupcake Decorating Party.

I’m a big fan of cupcakes. I love the delightfully-sized portion of cake, the potential for creativity in decorating with icing, and the sweetness understood by its name.

Eagerly, I invited a number of friends and colleagues to attend the decorating bash this year, and just the mention of the event seemed to bring happiness to the possible attendees! What a happy way to share in the promising return of spring.

And boy, did the guests create, create, create. I’m always amazed at the focus, the fun, and the variety of colors and ideas brought forth at this event.

The idea for the event is simple: I provide the ‘naked’ cupcakes (all vanilla or white this year), basic white icing, some toppings, and guests come with their favorite toppings/tools to share. I made around 6 dozen cupcakes, and there was more than enough for everyone in attendance to enjoy. We also managed to send home every last cupcake with our guests! I dubbed myself the ‘Cupcake Fairy’ and delivered every last one to friends that same night.

I spent most of my time making sure everyone had what they needed and refilling the non-cupcake noshies, but I managed to create this simple plate I’m calling ‘Shades of Purple.’

For some time, I debated hosting this event again this year, since Shane and I aren’t eating much refined sugary treats these days, and I wondered what message I was sending about good/healthy/clean foods. But I’m so glad I got over it. If we can’t find balance by accepting a cupcake or two into our lives from time to time, what’s the point?

Have a delightful and delicious Easter Sunday!
