Coffee Talk Tuesday #81

Grab your cup! Let’s have a Coffee Talk today.

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that my schedule is all over the place this week with events and meetings, so I find myself with a mostly-free Tuesday. I took advantage of the day and, after meeting with a summer program director, I left for Annapolis where I took a Buti class! With studying to certify, I want to expose myself to as many different Buti styles as possible. I love to learn new techniques and ways to explain the moves, which makes attending classes so critical. I loved my new-to-me location! I even bought a 5-class pass, so I’ll find a way to come back again. It happens to be located right next to a Starbucks, so that’s where I’m settling for today’s coffee talk!

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that husband and I are crafting plans for a fabulous summer trip! We love planning our next adventure before our current adventure ends, so we laid the groundwork for this trip when we were in Charlotte. We’re both able to visit new places (one location is new to both of us!) and I can’t wait to sort the details. I’m so pumped for this adventure! I love planning trips.

If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I saw something on the insta last night that made me pause and think. I can’t find it again to share (naturally), so here’s the basic gist of the message:

It made me pause for a couple of reasons. 1) We’re told (is this true for boys??) as girls to be humble, almost demure, to hold back a little/not share everything you have, whether it be skin, skills, leadership, etc. I’m not very good at coloring inside the lines, so I don’t know that I’ve ever followed this advice, but I know I’ve had several people share it with me at various points in my life (as recently as 6 months ago). 2) With being able to ‘self publish’ on instagram, facebook, blogs–any social medium, we’re able to shine and share our strengths daily. But even on social media, we barely scratch the surface of our lives. Scrolling through my instagram, for instance, you’d be able to see that I train a lot, teach a lot of classes, wear pretty dresses, drink a ton of coffee, have a husband who cooks delicious dinners every night, meal prep like a boss, and have an obsession with my cat.

But…did you know that I freelance as a designer? Or that I build websites? Or that I spend time with 7-9th graders working on college and career prep/life after high school? Or that I spend hours, hours, hours, prepping for classes, designing class messages, marketing materials, and work hard to learn new teaching methods? Or that I offer wedding dance lessons to couples and love doing it?

The post got me thinking because sometimes we forget to highlight the best parts of ourselves, for fear of…failure? Someone feeling jealous? Oversharing? Bragging? Does it matter?

It’s YOUR turn – please, please, please leave a comment here or on facebook that shares something you are PROUD of that you do. I don’t care what it is, just that it makes you happy and that you can do it. Share away, friends! Let’s kick the habit of shielding our happiness and share, share, share it!
