Coffee Talk Tuesday #82
As we work our way through this “is it really you, Spring?” week, I have a few thoughts on my mind that are perfect for our coffee chat. Grab your cup, it’s time for our weekly chat.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I started a new workout series this week! It’s called PWR and it’s part of the Sweat family of workouts (just like BBG and BBG Stronger). But…it’s different. Some of the moves are similar, but the way they are performed is different. She utilizes pyramids and supersets, which I love, love, love when training arms, so that will be fun. It was a test of patience for legs yesterday! I did the legs&core set, and WOW–my core is actually super sore, so I know it’s getting areas I don’t normally access in my workouts. I also stuck to arms, legs, and full body when I did my BBG stronger workouts, so this was a definite awakening for my body to add training abs! I’m excited to keep going with it, and will continue to share my progress.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that husband & I have been working on a special project and I can’t wait to share more about it with you! We’re always working on something. It’s so awesome to have a relationship where we’re both super independent but come together on the really important things. In all seriousness, I think this is what makes relationships WORK – having independence but being able to do important things together. And frequent dates. Like curry, Whole Foods, and Target dates. Don’t stop ‘dating’ even once you get married! #DateYourSpouse
Now for the juicy thoughts in my mind. Need a refill? I will wait…
On giving up
When is enough…enough? Giving up seems so negative – even as I type the words, my shoulders slump a little. “Don’t give up” was like the motto of my childhood, even into college. But, can giving up be a positive thing? Let me tell you what I’ve ‘given up’ and why I think giving up can be a GOOD thing.
- training to be skinny (what was I thinking?!)
- people who are energy vampires (they suck the life out of you)
- trying to please people
- saying yes to sh*t I hate
- wearing dress pants (but really)
- a “good” job with “good” benefits
- following a prescribed path
- making excuses
Things I’d like to give up
- explaining myself (it never goes well, and people have their own perceptions. Ugh, see I did it there, why can’t I stop explaining myself?!)
- Teaching one certain format I can’t seem to get rid of…
- the need to be right. This is a strong habit from childhood and it’s time to let shiz go.
- not speaking up for myself (getting better at this, but sometimes I go HARD in the other direction and that’s not cool either)
Sometimes, I think we do things out of habit. Habits are hard to break. It can be done. Also, I’m doing this “train your brain” exercise now with my students and it’s making me think a lot about habits, frustrations, and channeling all of that into positive thoughts and eventually positive actions. You can train your brain to try new tasks and learn new things. Like habits. And giving things up.
I have one more series of thoughts swirling in my brain, but my coffee is gone, and it’s time to move on to the next task. Next week…stay tuned for more thoughts! And, as always, I’d love to hear from YOU! What’s something you have given up and (BONUS) what is something you’d like to give up? Please share and we’ll keep each other accountable.
What I’ve given up (for the most part):
The need to seem chill in order to be at the adult version of the cool kid table. I’m a responsible, organized person so I refuse to act like I’m laid back or don’t care when in reality I do. At the end of the day those folks benefit from me being proactive and I benefit from not having to pretend like I’m someone I’m not.
What I’d like to give up:
My need to control situations that are out of my control.
Love this. Be YOU and create your own table! Thanks for sharing.
