Coffee Talk Tuesday #95
It’s Tuesday! Grab your cup and let’s have a coffee chat. Or tea. Whatever you want in that cup!
If we were having coffee together this week, I’d tell you that I’m so happy to be able to work from coffee shops this summer as needed. It’s a nice change of scenery from working at home and having house chores staring me in the face, ha! Do you work from home? What do you like about it? I love it, really, especially the flexibility of it. Soon enough, I’ll be back at the schools!
If we were having coffee together this week, I’d tell you that we had a successful trip to Bowie State University last week! I took 14 students and 1 chaperone, and we met 100+ Next Gen students from other counties on campus. The day was awesome – we had so many great session presenters with varying topics (sciences/pipetting skills, construction, film and sound design, ROTC, business, radio/TV to name a few!) and the energy of the day was so, so good. I was in charge of planning this trip (the main contact, we all helped plan it), so it felt really nice that the day went so well. Our students were excited about Bowie. I love being able to give them these opportunities!
If we were having coffee together this week, I’d tell you that now that’s over, I’m back to worrying about other things. Ha! I have a ton of data to process and share from this year’s engagements with students, and some planning for next year.
If we were having coffee together this week, I’d tell you that I still have so much to look forward to this summer! A beach weekend, lots of fitness classes, finishing my barre certification, my Buti certification weekend, taking 12 new college students on an explore orientation trip (SUP yoga, zip-lining, meditation, Buti and MORE), and likely a quick beach day trip or two. PLUS, husband is on the drywall phase of the back room, which is very exciting. It’s starting to look like a real room!
If we were having coffee together this week, I’d tell you that lots of thoughts are surrounding my head related to fitness and wellness. As a fitness instructor, a lot of assumptions are made about my lifestyle. Well of course she exercises and eats well and has all the answers. Can I share a secret? I think the best trainers are the ones who do NOT have all the answers, and continue to learn. There are always new methods shared, new ways of explaining moves, new ideas to pursue. Really, who actually has all the answers? I’ve worked in many gyms, and can honestly say that the know-it-all trainers have always been my least favorite. It’s OK to learn with clients.
Related to that, I love sharing my own wellness journey progress with my clients (and generally on insta) — this makes me REAL and HUMAN. Even trainers and instructors get off course and need to reel it back in sometimes! I have been know to fall into a “teach all the classes” cycle and forget that I’m still training for me, too. Thank goodness for things like Buti and Barre training and my BBG workouts – these help keep me on track for myself. I always like to be learning something new. I never would’ve thought that I’d be training to teach Buti and Barre, so who even knows what’s next?!
But! Sometimes we learn fun things that we can then share with you, which is my favorite part of being an instructor. I’ve been adding more choreography videos to my YouTube site, and some tutorials on facebook. Check out my newest tutorial explaining eight-angled balance pose!
That’s all I have for this week – enjoy that cup of coffee!
