Coffee Talk Tuesday #99
It’s Tuesday! Grab your (iced?) coffee and let’s get to it. (Alert: PSLs are now available.)
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that the basic girl in me loves that PSLs are available, BUT I’ve been drinking coffee and lattes without sugary flavors this year, and now anything super sugary gives me a headache. It’s crazy how that happens! So, no PSLs for me, but I still love how that’s a sure sign that fall is on the way.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that another sure sign that fall is on the way is that school is almost back in session! I started going to the high school this week to get my office situated. We also have Open House at both the middle and high school later this week. I’m excited to see some of my students and families again! The office space is coming together, too.
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m still on a high from this weekend’s Buti training. I’m so in love with this format, y’all. I can’t wait to continue sharing it with everyone I know. It’s liberating, it feels good, it awakens things, and it builds a supportive community. I will love and cherish the girls from my cert weekend forever! We had SO much love and support for each other. One day of the workshop centered on each lady leading a demo for the rest of us to try. After the demo, we received feedback from our master trainer. It’s intimidating to lead other teachers/peers through a format but it seriously felt so awesome, and I don’t care about saying this – I rocked my demo so hard. I felt the music, I felt the energy, and my beats were on fire. It feels so awesome when you can immediately sense that. This format was MADE for me. All of the training that I’ve done in the past has lead to this format.
The biggest feedback my master trainer provided was to let go of the “zumba” mentality – the need to perform/be on during classes. The different thing about Buti is that you don’t have to pretend/put on a show. She wants me to own the energy and presence that I have and let my day/mood/emotions fuel the class. I love this — it’s so freeing. For most of my classes (and I’m seriously not complaining, this is just the way it is), I have to be ON – no matter what kind of day I have, you have to show up, give 110% and keep the energy and positivity on high. With Buti, you take your current emotions and use them to fuel the class – maybe one day is full of crazy power, and the next has a mix of power and moody, and maybe one is super moody. The workout part of it doesn’t change, but you share and build this vulnerability that is intoxicating and brings the community together. I’m so excited to continue exploring this with my Buti class at Foundations. Join me Wednesday nights (5:15 this week and then 5:30 starting in sept) to flow and feel and build confidence!
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I need YOU! If you live near Kent County and love sharing your story, please consider volunteering for the Maryland Scholars program. We will go into 8th and 9th grade classes to share ideas, inspiration, and energy for life after high school. We have a training and a whole presentation to share with you, I will be there with you in the classroom, and seriously, it’s so much fun. If you have a STEM background or job, I need you, too! We’re looking to bring STEM specialists into science classes for grades 8-10 this year to share a fun hands-on activity related to your job. CONTACT ME to get started – here, facebook, or aundra@mbrt.org. The future of Kent County needs you and your expertise!
If we were having coffee together today, I’d tell you that I’m excited for the fall fitness schedule to start! I have just a few classes this week and then we’ll jump into the full schedule next Monday. Ready for you!!!
Have a wonderful week – I’ll see you in class or next week!
Congrats on your Buti weekend/certification! I can’t wait to try it! I forgot that you’re teaching this week! I’ll see if I can make it! It will probably work better when it starts at 5:30, but I’ll see about tomorrow! I’m so proud of you! You’re a great teacher! See you next week, if not tomorrow! Oh, as far as volunteering with you, I’d love to, but trying to spend as much “off time”with Eli.
