Creating Save the Dates

Our Save the Dates are done and sent.

I had it in my mind to send these just before the 6-month wedding mark. Since we didn’t get to meet with our wedding photographer for engagement photos until the end of April, I knew I needed a photo to use sooner. Luckily, Matt – husband of one of my bridesmaids Natalie and awesome photographer – agreed to take some photos of us for save the dates!

We chose this photo, taken at Wilmer Park in Chestertown. I loved several of them, but this one fit the overall look I wanted to achieve with the save the date.

I got the idea to use a calendar and stamp the date from Julie at PB Fingers. Johnny loves stamps and I love the personal touch look of hand-stamping.

I ordered the heart stamper from amazon, and the two other stamps (J&A on the inside flap of the envelope and our Anderson return address stamp) are from Stampanda, where you can build a custom design.

I designed our save the date using photoshop. I didn’t use a template, I pulled all the pieces together in a 4×6″ design.

The ‘A’ monogram was a free customizable download from Wedding Chicks (<–super awesome, check it out). This deep blue is our main wedding color, and orange goes with our Halloween wedding date.

The calendar was easy enough to create in photoshop, too. I love the simplicity and rich colors of our save the date! I used Vistaprint to print our save the dates.

The smooth kraft envelopes were ordered from amazon.

Overall, we saved a ton on our DIY save the dates since I designed them and we hand-stamped each piece. This was also a really fun DIY project that we could work on together.
