A Date Night Adventure
A recent date night in Annapolis had a fun added twist!
The plan was to have Thai food at Lemongrass–definitely a must if you are in the Annapolis area–then a romantic walk along the water while the sun set, followed by ice cream at Annapolis Ice Cream Company, and a follow-up walk to the St. John’s campus.
Dinner was perfect — cozy table, delicious spring rolls, cashew chicken, massaman curry, and a handsome dinner partner.
We got there early so there was no wait time, and we ate at a leisurely pace. It was Johnny’s first time at Lemongrass and I wanted him to enjoy the full experience!
After dinner, we walked down West, toward Main Street, and down to the water. We took a detour – we walked down a parallel street, since Saturday night means a busy Main Street! Once we got to the water, we spent time watching the boats, snuggling by the water, and taking selfies with an audience.
(side note – I’m in lust with my new Banana Republic gumdrop necklace. Statement necklaces are my jam.)
The temperature was summer-meets-fall, the sunset was golden and pink, and I got to walk hand-in-hand with my favorite date. We slowly made our way toward Main Street to stop at Annapolis Ice Cream Factory.
On the way, I saw a sign advertising Spamalot (based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail). On the poster, the show was listed to run through August 31. I made a comment to Johnny about the musical, and how it would’ve been cool to see it. It was supposed to have two more shows, so it didn’t even occur to me that we could possibly see it.
We continued our walk to get ice cream. I wanted cake batter (sugar rush), but they were out so I went with my summer favorite – coconut.
The shop is small, so once you get your ice cream, you awkwardly share other people’s space until you can get out the door.
All the Main Street benches were claimed, so we ducked into the nearest shop entrance area (which was closed) — the dress shop next door to the ice creamery. As we happily ate our ice cream, we giggled and watched lots of people pass by.
At two different points, we each suggested that we start walking toward the St. John’s College campus, our final destination for the evening. We ended up staying to tackle our ice cream cone mounds instead.
When we eventually started our walk towards the campus, we were greeted by a woman who was waving free tickets in her hand.
She approached us, asking if we already had tickets to the show. What show? Spamalot, at the Summer Garden Theatre. Starts in 30 minutes. Johnny and I both looked at each other, and almost simultaneously said Sure!
The show had two nights left, was sold out, and here was a woman waving two free tickets at us — she was unable to attend, but knew it would be an awesome show. What are the odds?
We walked down Main Street, tickets in hand, to the theatre — which neither of us knew existed until we were given tickets to the show.
The night was perfect for an outdoor performance under the stars! The cast was terrific, the jokes were spot-on, and the whole show was a hit.
How awesome is it that we scored free tickets so spontaneously?
