Fit Friday #13: Changing it Up
Welcome to a new series on the blog: Fit Friday! We’ll explore topics in fitness and wellness together. Have something you want me to answer or cover? hmu at fitwithaundra@gmail.com. Here’s a collection of all the Fit Friday posts.
Do you ever get bored with your workout routine? I go both ways. On one hand, I thrive under a routine — do this workout, do that workout, eat this fuel, eat that fuel. On the other hand, I get impulsive and want to mix it up sometimes.
One of the reasons I chose the fitness class formats I teach is because I have the ability to change up the moves and music often! We get new rounds that are filled with new music and moves to share. Once I feel like everyone has mastered the moves, I switch it up to keep people moving!
(Turbo peeps, this is your head’s up that we have NEW material on Monday! Here’s a sneak peek video of the turbo. I love it!)
Lately, I’ve been loving my BBG workouts (bikini body guide by Sweat/Kayla Itsines) and she just released BBG Stronger, which incorporates heavier weights and lower reps. It’s the perfect time for me to try something new! So, I put BBG on the backburner and picked up BBG Stronger. My body has definitely felt sore all week.
Is being sore a good thing? I think so, sometimes. The thing you don’t want to feel is pain. Going too hard, too fast is not a good idea. If you’re thinking of trying something new, ease into it. You’ll have plenty of chances to go balls-to-the-wall once your body adjusts.
How do you know when it’s time to switch up the routine? For me, I check in with my motivation. Do I want to go do this workout? If it’s something I’m dreading, then I know it’s definitely time to mix up the routine.
I love my hot yoga classes, for example, but lately I’ve been mixing it up with barre and Buti Yoga, for a little variety. I treasure any class I can make it to, but it’s fun to have something different to try. I’m also itching to get on the water for some SUP Yoga this summer.
It’s A-OK to go back to something again after a little break, or even some time off the workout routine. Just don’t let yourself take toooooo much time off, it will hurt even more when you try to get back into the game.
Even as an instructor, I certainly get antsy with the workouts we’re doing. I’m taking a little break from Zumba this summer, and I just registered for another NEW fitness format to bring to you! I’m super excited for this one – it’s a little outside my comfort zone. I’m also planning one more certification this year, maybe in the fall. It’s tough to try and squeeze it all in – I want to share all the things with you!
Thinking about trying something new? Check out my fears in group fitness post, and my tips for trying a new fitness class.
See you on the floor!
I’m excited for the new Turbo! Also can’t wait to see any other new things, with your new certification! Way to go! Keep up the great work! ❤️
Love, love, love change up and new classes…can’t wait to see what you’re bringing to the table (class) lol! 😊
