Monday Musings

Happy Monday! The weekend over here was a whirlwind, complete with a bowling birthday party (celebrating the cutest 5-year-old), a cookout at Johnny’s, teaching a Zumba class, and loads of cleaning and organizing.

Three takeaways from the weekend that will continue to fuel me as we start the week:

1) I finished The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I saw it on Johnny’s bookshelf and picked it up since I’d never read it. Biggest takeaways: it’s easy to forget that our stories and lives are all connected, finding a certain love is something to be cherished, and forgive others, even at the expense of your humility.

2) I didn’t take a single. photo. of our cookout yesterday. Usually when food and fun is involved, I’m all over it with photos. We spent so long prepping for the party and making sure everything was in place, and I was so excited to greet everyone that my phone stayed upside down and next to the front door. It just means we need to do it again soon! The world needs more photos of food in it.

3) A note I sleepily scribbled on a scrap piece of paper while reading this weekend: You think you have ‘grown up’ when you learn to take care of yourself, when you learn self-sufficiency. But you really ‘grow up’ when you realize that you need others to help take care of you, that doing it all alone is a false sense of comfort.

I’ve prided myself on not ‘needing’ anyone — that I can entertain myself, keep myself motivated, and take care of myself. After a crazy awesome year of rewriting my script, finding and starting to follow my own bliss, and now being in a mutual, loving relationship, I’ve found that it’s awesome and totally ok to lean on someone else, as long as they can lean on you, too.

Get out there and conquer the week!
