My Unexpected Weekend

This morning, I’d planned to spend my time getting CPR re-certified! But I got there only to find that the class had been cancelled. Bummer, BUT that gave me an entire day to go frolic!

Since I was halfway there, I rode up toward Elkton to see if I could squeeze in an eye doctor appointment. On the way, I stopped for a few local goodies from Detweiler’s Farm Market:

So excited to try the PA cheese! And I have a super special plan for those watermelons.

My eye doctor was able to squeeze me in!! Totally silly and random, but this is one of those things on my to do list that I’ve been avoiding. My vision hasn’t changed at all in the past five years, so a visit to the eye doctor is just a formality so I can continue to order contact lenses online.

This time, however, my eye doctor suggested I look into LASIK. I’ve thought about it for awhile, but my flex medical spending account is reserved right now for dental work. So maybe once that’s finished I can look into it. Shane had the procedure a few years ago, and LOVES it. His eyes were dry for the first few months, but now it’s totally fine. So, maybe one day soon… Have you tried LASIK?

Since I had some extra time today, I wanted to go for a long run, too! I’m still in “training” mode…the next race is a 10 miler in Annapolis at the end of August. I ran 6 miles today! Felt so good!!

I ran on my old favorite 6 mile loop, and found it looking very different from this spring! The corn is taller than me now! It must be summer.

Around mile 2.5, it started to rain lightly. I could’ve turned around and headed back home, but there was no threat of lightning, the rain was light, so I kept going and finished my 6 mile loop with a big childish grin on my face from the sweet summer rain!

I’m heading out now to meet a friend at a new-to-me sushi place (so excited!!), but when I get back, I have some serious jelly-making plans:

mini jars for holiday gifts
giant local watermelons

annnnd then I have a fun popsicle-making adventure! I found some blueberries in the freezer from last summer, and thought it would be fun to turn them into lovely frozen treats! Stay tuned…this is uncharted territory for me.

I love unexpectedly fun and productive weekends!!!
